Esports Product Design

During my time as an ecommerce specialist with smash.gg, I worked to help clients in the esports industry design products that would excite their communities and result in a limited-run online shop that produced higher revenue at close. My involvement ranged from consulting, to one-off product design to creation of entire lines and ecommerce identities for clients. This collection showcases some of my most impactful designs.

Press A To Rumble Hoodie

This hoodie was designed for a retro gaming event in Connecticut, where competitive gaming tournaments would be ran in conjunctions with a convention for retro gamers. I designed a full collection for this client, themed primarily around an immediately recognizable "old-school," visual style with pixelated artwork. "Press A To Rumble," is understandable for convention-goers who may not be interested in the competitive side to the event, but also can be read like a call-out to a challenge to appeal to competitors. This collection focused on balancing on the line between the two types of potential customers.

ggUniversity Insignia

A larger project of mine while working with smash.gg was ggUniversity, a learning resource for esports professionals and hopefuls. Along with developing the logo for the website, I also created an insignia inspired by traditional university logos for use on apparel. I researched the artwork and meaning behind various real and fictional university insignias in my process of developing ggUniversity's, and reached out to a Latin language enthusiast forum to come up with the school's slogan of, "Ex Nihilio Svrgere," or, "to rise from nothing," an adaptation of a company commitment towards bottom-up growth.

Pepis Jersey

Pepis is a parody esports sponsor brand for the Super Smash Bros. community. In this community, having a sponsor allows one the opportunity to play competitively with with the security of the financial backing of a company, but also inevitably doubles as a status symbol of someone who's "made it," as players commonly list their sponsor's name before their competitor name when entering tournaments. Pepis is the sponsor anyone can have! When I worked with the creator of Pepis on a tournament he ran under his actual company name, SAK Gaming, he wanted to up the ante on the parody and open a shop that featured an actual sponsor jersey for fans to purchase. My design for the jersey resonated with the Pepis community, and has been a staple in SAK Gaming shops since.

Smash.gg Varsity Socks

I came up with multiple concepts to broaden smash.gg's own catalog of products during my time in employment with the company, and my favorite design to reach production are hand-woven varsity socks starring the smash.gg logomark on the upper-half of the sock, with the smash.gg logotype on the soles, so the brand is represented whether you're out-and-about with your kicks on, or hanging out with friends at home on game night.
